Friends of Darrabi are a volunteer group of parents and others who are
working with the local community to:
- maintain and grow the Darrabi Bush Food & Reconciliation Garden
- conserve and rehabilitate the surrounding native bushland and to
- protect, monitor and improve the health of the Diamond Creek
We meet at Darrabi on the 3rd Sunday of every month at 10.00am.
We aim to foster awareness of and respect for the local
native bushland, and to help the Shire and the school in the repair, care,
protection and conservation of the area through an annual plan of activities.
Activities are coordinated jointly between Nillumbik Shire Council,
Melbourne Water, Nillumbik Reconciliation Group and Hurstbridge Primary
School, and include:
- maintenance of the plants and landscape of the Resources Trail
- plantings with the children of Hurstbridge Primary School
- removal of environmental weeds and pests
- working with Greening Australia on the Yarra River Recovery Program
- providing species information, education, and interpretive walks
- respecting and involving the Wurundjeri Traditional owners
FOD obtain indigenous plants from Edendale Community Environment
Centre in Eltham, see http://www.nillumbik.vic.gov.au and other local nurseries, but most of the rarer native bush food plants have come from Kuranga Nursery in Mt Evelyn see: www.kuranga.com.au/bush.htm
FOD have a small stock of native food plants, herbs and products for sale to
members, or sold through stalls at local markets and festivals.
